Let's Do It!

February is the month of many activities… Super Bowl, Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day and the birthdays of two great Presidents of our nation (Lincoln and Washington).  The holidays are over, but the spirit lingers as each of us sets about to accomplish the goals we have set for ourselves individually and as a group.  We look forward to a very good year of fun and fellowship.

Many thanks to the nominating committee that met on January 15th to select a slate of officers for 2012-2013.  Their report will be presented to the delegates at the February 5th business meeting.  The election of officers for 2012-2013 will take place at the April 22nd business meeting, and of course, nominations may be made from the floor at the April meeting.  We appreciate those who so unselfishly give of their time, talents and resources to serve the dancers of our association.  A copy of their recommendations will be in the March Promenade.

As mentioned above, please mark your calendars for the NORTEX Business Meeting on February 5, 2012, at Swingtime Center at 2:00 p.m.  We have a full agenda for the February meeting.  In addition to the Nominating Committee report, the 2012 Budget Chair and 2012 Installation Chair will be presented to the delegates’ approval.  If it becomes necessary for your club to send an alternate delegate, please remember that the alternate must secure an alternate delegate form from the President Pro-Tem, complete it, have it signed by his/her club president (or if the president is not present, by another one of the club’s delegates who is already signed in) and give it to the NORTEX President or Secretary for approval before the meeting begins.

Believe it or not, we have already begun preparations for Round-Up 2012.  We had a very good meeting January 15 with multiple club representatives to discuss Pre-Round-Up dances.  We are looking forward to Sam and Mary Stephens’ Round-Up 2012 General Chair report. 

Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 4 to attend the NORTEX Teen Scholarship Benefit Dance.  This is an easy way for all clubs to be involved in helping make a difference for our NORTEX youth.  Thank you to Texas Reelers for hosting a Teen Scholarship Benefit Dance in January.  At 2:00, before the dance, we have a very exciting club growth event.  In conjunction with NTCA, the newly formed GRAM (Growth, Retention & Motivation) Committee is proud to present a no-cost seminar by the presidents of the Timberline Toppers of Frisco, Colorado, on how they took their club in 2005 from 13 members to over 200 members by 2010.  We want to encourage all club officers and members interested in growth to take part in this exciting event.  You can find more information on page 34 (of the Promenade).

We are pleased to have many clubs holding traditional square, round and clogging lessons at this time, and many are adding new members to their clubs.  We are thankful for the dedication and determination, and for helping introduce these new dancers to the joys and privileges of club membership.
