May

The month of May brings to mind the special observance I of Mother's Day. Some of us are blessed to still have our mothers with us; take advantage of this and share the joys of each day with the ones you love. May is not only the month we celebrate Mother's Day, but it is also a special month of remembrance. Thousands of American men and women in uniform continue to sacrifice for our cherished freedom. As Memorial Day draws near, let us especially remember those who have paid the ultimate price that we might enjoy the many liberties that we so often take for granted!

It was nice to see so many club delegates assembled together to conduct the business of NORTEX at the quarterly meeting on April 6. One very important aspect of the meeting was the delegates' election of a slate of officers to serve for next year. We appreciate so very much your vote of confidence in re-electing us to serve another term. It seems we had only just begun when election time slipped up on us. The dedication and enthusiasm of the officers who have served this year has encouraged and inspired us to work even harder next year for the NORTEX dancers. We are anticipating another fabulous year of friendship and fellowship on and off the dance floor!

Our NORTEX Installation and Dance will be held on June 22 at Swingtime Center. The installation will begin at 4:00 p.m., and grand march will take place at 5:30 p.m. (Note: this is one hour later than last year.) Darrell and Trava Weaver, Installation Chairman, together with the host clubs: Buttons & Bows, Decatur 8ers, Diamond Jubileers, Stone Steppers, and Texas Reelers, are making plans for a super program. We urge you to attend the installation and help us honor the Club of the Year, Couple of the Year, and Single of the Year. In addition, as part of the program, NORTEX Teen Scholarships will be awarded to a few of our own area teens. And as always, after the installation there will be a free dance for all NORTEX dancers. Squares will be called by Wayne Baldwin, and rounds will be cued by Jack von der Heide. Mark your calendars now to share the late afternoon with the newly installed officers.

Debbie Anderson, Round-Up Chair, introduced her committee and showcased the new Round-Up attire at the April 6, NORTEX Business Meeting. Please remember that the official kick-off night for the attire is Saturday, June 7 at the Rebel Rousers Anniversary Dance. After Saturday, June 7, the attire may be worn to any club dance in NORTEX. Each year the number of clubs who schedule dances which promote Round-Up grows. This year is no exception; the number of clubs scheduling dances is growing rapidly. If your club has not yet scheduled a Travelin' Texas Dance, please check with Charles, Kathy, and Joshua King, theme dance coordinator, before all the dance dates are taken. Check out the list of Round-Up Travelin' Texas Dances in this month's Promenade and the schedule will also be carried on the NORTEX website. Plans are underway to make Round-Up a grand event, so make arrangements to come for both the Callers' Cavalcade on Friday, October 31 and Round-Up on Saturday, November 1 at the Grapevine Convention Center. This year's Round-Up promises to be one of the best ever, so put on those dance shoes and let's Dance Across Texas.

A number of our clubs have had lessons this spring. Check this month's Promenade for a listing of new dancer dances. We want to thank the clubs for providing the chance for the new dancers to have floor time which is so important for them. Please remember that the clubs need our help with their new dancers; encourage them, interact with them, and make them feel at home on the dance floor. We can be the ones to help made a difference for our favorite pastime.

We are grateful to the many NORTEX clubs, officers, and dancers who provide us dancing opportunities each day of the week. As you can see, there are lots of events happening over the next few months, so take advantage of them and have a great time dancing and just having fun together as we go through May and summer begins. We wish each of you a merry and marvelous May, filled with dancing, laughter, fun, and fellowship. We would also like to express our best wishes to all Mothers for a very special and happy day.

Together hand-in-hand,

Larry and Kaye
